President-elect of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, has revealed details of her meeting with President Bola Tinubu, saying their discussions centered on her election victory, the NBA’s electronic voting system and efforts to strengthen the association’s internal processes.

Speaking with journalists after a courtesy visit to the president at the State House in Abuja on Tuesday, Badejo-Okusanya said Tinubu congratulated her on emerging as the next president of the NBA and encouraged improvements to the association’s electoral process through technology.

According to her, the president acknowledged the challenges associated with electronic voting and discussed ways the association could enhance its systems to make future elections more efficient and credible.

“He congratulated me on the victory. We talked about the challenges of electronic voting and technology, and we spoke about the ways in which we can continue to improve on our processes. It was very encouraging,” she said.

Looking ahead to her inauguration at the end of August, Badejo-Okusanya said one of her immediate priorities would be fostering reconciliation among members and restoring unity within the association.

She noted that before assuming office, she would continue engaging with members and stakeholders to address grievances, heal divisions and ensure the NBA remains effective in promoting justice and serving society.

“My swearing-in is not until the end of August. In the meantime, I continue to reach out to members and stakeholders so that we can work together to improve things, heal any hurt and ensure that the NBA continues to fulfil its role in society,” she said.

The senior lawyer also pledged that her administration would focus on strengthening the association, resolving internal concerns and promoting unity among members.

“Everything that needs to be done, I can assure members and the public that I will do. We’ll make sure that we unite ourselves. We’ll make sure that we put our house in order,” she added.

Badejo-Okusanya is scheduled to be sworn in as president of the Nigerian Bar Association during the association’s Annual General Conference at the end of August.
