Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has directed the immediate repair of the Mosogar-Oghara Stretch of Warri-Benin Highway, following growing public outcry over the deteriorating condition of the strategic federal road that has caused severe traffic congestion, prolonged travel times and increased safety risks for motorists.
The directive followed widespread complaints from motorists and commuters on social media and other platforms over the deplorable state of the highway, one of Nigeria’s busiest transport corridors linking the South-South to other parts of the country.

Announcing the governor’s approval on Wednesday, the Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, said the emergency intervention reflects the administration’s commitment to addressing infrastructure challenges that directly affect the lives and economic activities of residents.
Although the Warri-Benin Highway is a federal road, Izeze said Governor Oborevwori considered it necessary to intervene because of the severe hardship experienced daily by thousands of road users.
According to him, the governor directed that immediate remedial work be carried out to restore smooth traffic flow and improve safety while awaiting a comprehensive reconstruction of the highway by the Federal Government.
He disclosed that Obakpor Engineering Construction Company has already mobilised to the affected section with construction materials, including stone base and sand, signalling the commencement of emergency rehabilitation works.

The commissioner expressed optimism that the intervention would significantly reduce travel delays, minimise vehicle breakdowns and improve the movement of goods and passengers along the critical corridor.
Izeze said the project demonstrates the strong collaboration between the Delta State Government and the Federal Government in delivering infrastructure that supports economic growth and improves citizens’ welfare.
He noted that the intervention aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Governor Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E. Agenda, both aimed at delivering sustainable development and improving public infrastructure.
“It further re-emphasises the mutual inclusivity of the BAT/SHERIFF vision for our people as captured by the Renewed Hope/M.O.R.E. Agenda of these national and sub-national visionaries respectively,” he stated.
The Mosogar-Oghara Stretch of Warri-Benin Highway has become one of the most problematic sections of the road, with persistent deterioration leading to frequent gridlock, increased transportation costs and disruptions to the movement of petroleum products, agricultural produce and other commercial goods.
The state government’s intervention is expected to provide immediate relief to commuters while reinforcing its commitment to responsive governance and infrastructure development.
