The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, approval to introduce 24 new academic programmes beginning with the 2026/2027 academic session.
The approval, which covers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses, was conveyed in an official letter addressed to the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Jimoh Shaykh-Luqman.
The letter was signed by the NUC Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar Girei.
The development was announced in Ilorin on Wednesday, by the university’s Director of University Relations, Prof. Saeedat Aliyu, who disclosed that the newly approved programmes comprise 14 undergraduate and 10 postgraduate courses.
According to her, the undergraduate programmes approved by the commission include Architecture, Quantity Surveying, Surveying and Geoinformatics, Nursing Science, Community Health Science, Computer Engineering, Industrial and Production Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering.

Other newly approved bachelor’s degree programmes are Insurance and Risk Management, Educational Technology, Guidance and Counselling, Health Education, Entrepreneurship Education, and Technology Education.
At the postgraduate level, the NUC approved Master’s and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programmes in Fine and Applied Arts as well as Performing Arts.
Additional postgraduate programmes approved include a Master’s degree in Linguistics, a Postgraduate Diploma, Master’s and Ph.D. in Food Science and Technology, and doctoral programmes in Hospitality and Tourism Management, Public Administration, and Mass Communication.
Reacting to the approval, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Jimoh Shaykh-Luqman congratulated members of staff who participated in the resource verification exercise conducted by the NUC, describing the approval as the result of their dedication and commitment.
He noted that the university remains focused on maintaining high academic standards through quality teaching, impactful research and meaningful community engagement.
According to the vice-chancellor, KWASU will continue to strengthen its reputation by producing highly skilled graduates capable of contributing to national development and competing effectively in the global economy.
