Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose is facing renewed public attention, after his appointment as chairman of the board of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) revived comments he made last year about declining a role in President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Tinubu on Monday appointed Fayose as REA board chairman as part of a broader announcement involving 26 appointments to the boards of 10 federal government agencies and commissions.
The appointments were confirmed in a statement issued by the president’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The appointment has sparked debate because of comments Fayose made during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on October 15, 2025, where he revealed that he had turned down an offer to serve in the Tinubu administration.

According to the former governor, he told the president he was not interested in any government position, saying he preferred to retire from public office after serving two terms as governor of Ekiti State.
Fayose stated at the time that he would rather focus on his personal life than accept an appointment under an APC-led government.
He also emphasized that his cordial relationship with Tinubu was based on personal friendship and should not be interpreted as political affiliation, insisting he remained outside the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Despite those earlier declarations, Fayose has now accepted the position as chairman of the REA board, a move that has generated reactions across political circles and on social media.
