According to a statement issued on Friday by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the nine victims were rescued by troops of Sector 2 during a fighting patrol in Faskari Local Government Area.

The victims, comprising three women, four men, and two children, were reportedly abducted by terrorists on July 9, 2026, along the Tsafe–Kuchere Road in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Preliminary findings revealed that the victims managed to escape after their captors fell asleep before they were intercepted and rescued by the troops. They are currently in safe custody and are being processed for reunification with their families.

In a separate operation in Bakori Local Government Area, troops acted on credible intelligence and confronted terrorists attempting to rustle livestock.

The terrorists reportedly opened fire on the troops but fled into the surrounding bush after being overwhelmed by the military’s superior firepower, abandoning 56 rustled livestock, comprising four cattle and 52 sheep.

The recovered animals are currently in military custody pending their handover to the appropriate local authorities.

Meanwhile, troops also arrested a suspected terrorist during routine operations in Danmusa Local Government Area. Items recovered from the suspect during preliminary investigation were said to indicate possible links to terrorist activities.

The suspect remains in military custody and is undergoing further investigation.

Commending the troops, the Theatre Commander of Operation FANSAN YAMMA praised their professionalism, vigilance, and resilience in sustaining pressure on terrorists and other criminal elements across the North-West.

He reaffirmed the Joint Task Force’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven operations in collaboration with other security agencies and residents until terrorism and other forms of criminality are decisively defeated in the region.
