The legal battle involving self-acclaimed Director-General of the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), Adeniyi Adeyemi, has taken an international dimension as a United States lobbying firm has announced plans to brief officials in President Donald Trump’s administration over his arrest by the police.
Key Highlights:
- U.S.-based lobbying firm Von Batten-Montague-York plans to brief President Donald Trump’s administration on Adeniyi Adeyemi’s arrest.
- The firm claims Adeyemi was preparing to submit documents and a sworn statement alleging misconduct by senior Nigerian officials before his arrest.
- The lobbying firm provided no evidence to support its claim that the arrest was intended to prevent the submission of the information.
- Managing Partner Karl Von Batten said the matter would also be raised with members of the U.S. Congress.
- Adeyemi was arrested on allegations of conspiracy, forgery and impersonation after a Federal High Court in Abuja issued a bench warrant.
The Washington-based lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, which is retained by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, disclosed that it intends to present Adeyemi’s case to senior officials in the White House following his arrest on allegations of conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.
In a statement, the firm claimed Adeyemi has been preparing to submit documentary evidence and a sworn statement to U.S. officials concerning allegations he made against top Nigerian government officials before he was taken into custody.

The firm further alleged that Adeyemi’s arrest came shortly after it established contact with him, suggesting the move may have been intended to prevent him from presenting the information to U.S. authorities.
However, it did not provide evidence to substantiate the claim.
Managing Partner of the firm, Karl Von Batten, said he had already briefed members of President Trump’s team and would also engage members of the U.S. Congress over the allegations raised by Adeyemi.
The development comes amid reports that Von Batten-Montague-York is representing Atiku Abubakar under a 12-month lobbying contract valued at $1.2 million.
Adeyemi was arrested in Osun State by the police after a Federal High Court in Abuja, issued a bench warrant for his arrest.
The police alleged that he forged several official government documents, including a purported presidential appointment letter, allegedly signed by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and falsely presented himself as the director-general of the PFIPC, an agency the Presidency has maintained does not exist.
The case has been adjourned until September 30, 2026, when Adeyemi is expected to be arraigned before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
