The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the invasion by gunmen of Government Secondary School, Odo-Ekina, in Dekina Local Government Area on Tuesday evening, resulting in the abduction of the school principal, four students, and a National Examinations Council (NECO) ad hoc staff.
The incident was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Afusat.
According to the statement, the attack occurred at about 5:25 p.m. on Tuesday.
The police spokesperson said a combined team of security operatives immediately launched a search-and-rescue operation following the attack and has since commenced a manhunt for the abductors.
She disclosed that one of the abducted students has already been rescued, while efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the remaining victims and apprehend those behind the attack.

The statement further revealed that the state Commissioner of Police, Naziru Kankarofi, accompanied by the brigade commander and the security adviser to the state governor, were on their way to the scene for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation.
The command assured residents that security agencies remain committed to rescuing the remaining victims safely and restoring normalcy to the affected community.
It added that a comprehensive statement containing further verified details would be released as investigations continue.
