The senator representing Kogi Central, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has installed free campus-wide Wi-Fi network at the Federal College of Education, Okene, providing students and lecturers with improved internet access to support learning, research and innovation.
The initiative, unveiled on Sunday, is part of the lawmaker’s efforts to strengthen education through digital inclusion.
According to her, reliable internet access has become an essential tool for academic excellence, innovation and preparing young people for opportunities in the global digital economy.
Sen. Akpoti-Uduaghan said the free Wi-Fi service would enable students to access online learning platforms, digital libraries, professional certification courses, artificial intelligence resources, software development tools and remote work opportunities without the financial burden of purchasing internet data.
She stressed that investing in education remains one of the most effective ways to build a prosperous future, adding that the project is aimed at removing barriers to knowledge and equipping students with the digital skills needed to compete globally.

Students who witnessed the inauguration welcomed the intervention, describing it as a timely boost to academic activities.
They noted that the facility would lower the cost of internet access, improve research, support virtual learning and encourage technology-driven innovation and entrepreneurship on campus.
Education stakeholders also praised the initiative, saying dependable internet connectivity has become indispensable for research, academic collaboration and digital inclusion in tertiary institutions.
The free campus Wi-Fi project follows the senator’s recently launched “Growing Kogi Central, Building Our Future” initiative, under which 10,000 economic trees are being planted to promote environmental sustainability and economic empowerment across the district.
