Six kidnap victims, including two young children, have regained their freedom after a dramatic escape from armed bandits and a timely rescue by troops of the 17 Brigade Nigerian Army in Katsina State.
The victims were found wandering through a bush in Faskari Local Government Area on Monday, June 29, 2026, after fleeing from their abductors who had held them captive for days.

The rescue followed a routine foot patrol by troops stationed at Unguwan Doka. The soldiers reportedly spotted the victims in the bush and immediately moved in to secure them.
The rescued victims were identified as Mrs Umaima Isiaku, 30; Amina Isiaku, 16; Safiya Isiaku, 15; Ramatu Suleiman, 30; Muhammad Shehu, 4; and Ibrahim Suleiman, 2.
The victims’ ordeal began on June 22, 2026, when armed bandits stormed Unguwan Lado in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State and abducted them, according to preliminary findings by the army.
For several days, the victims remained in captivity before they found an opportunity to escape.
They reportedly trekked through the bush in search of safety, until they crossed paths with troops conducting security patrols.
After the rescue, the soldiers provided immediate medical attention, food and other necessities to help the victims recover from the trauma of their captivity.
The army later facilitated their reunion with their families.

The successful operation comes amid intensified military efforts to disrupt the activities of bandits and criminal groups operating in parts of Katsina State, a region that has faced repeated attacks, kidnapping incidents and security threats.
Reacting to the development, the Commander of 17 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ishaya Ibrahim, reaffirmed the brigade’s commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against criminal elements.
He assured residents within the brigade’s area of responsibility that troops would continue patrols and other security operations aimed at protecting communities and restoring peace.
The rescue operation was announced in a statement signed by Captain Abayomi Adisa, acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations, 17 Brigade Nigerian Army, on June 30, 2026.
