South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has issued a stern warning to individuals and groups seeking to exploit next week’s planned anti-immigrant marches to foment unrest, declaring that his government will act decisively against any attempt to destabilize the country.

Key Highlights:
  • Warning on unrest: Ramaphosa warned against violence ahead of planned anti-immigrant protests.
  • Law enforcement stance: He said security agencies will act against any attempt to destabilize the country.
  • Right to protest: He reaffirmed support for peaceful protests but rejected xenophobia and lawlessness.
  • Security alert: Authorities have been placed on high alert to maintain public safety.

The warning is coming amid heightened tensions over immigration, unemployment, and public safety, with demonstrations expected to take place in several parts of South Africa.

Ramaphosa reaffirmed that while the country’s constitution guarantees the right to peaceful protest, authorities will not tolerate violence, intimidation, xenophobic attacks, or any form of lawlessness targeting individuals or communities.

He stressed that security agencies have been directed to remain vigilant and ensure public safety throughout the planned demonstrations.
