Social media activist and commentator VeryDarkMan has sparked debate after questioning the military’s handling of the country’s worsening insecurity challenges.
In a video shared on his official Instagram account, VeryDarkMan compared past military responses to attacks involving soldiers with recent incidents involving banditry and kidnappings.
He alleged that communities were previously subjected to collective punishment whenever soldiers were attacked, but questioned why similar aggressive action had not been seen in recent cases.
He specifically reacted to reports of the abduction of a military General and his wife by bandits, asking why the location where the General was allegedly held had not been raided.
“Fast forward to 2026, bandits kidnapped a whole General, took him inside the bush… the General was in the bush till he passed.

“They took his dead body to give back to the community. After he died, they carried the wife and released her, up till today the Army has not raided that bush,” he claimed.
The activist also alleged that insecurity may continue due to concerns surrounding the management of security funds, calling for greater transparency and accountability in how resources meant to fight crime are used.
His comments have generated mixed reactions online, with Nigerians debating military effectiveness, security funding, and the need for stronger measures against kidnapping and banditry.
