The Kano State Police Command has announced restriction of vehicular and pedestrian movement in Dawakin Kudu and Warawa Local Government Areas ahead of the House of Representatives by-election scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026.

According to a statement issued by the spokesperson of the command, Abdulllahi Kiyawa, the restriction, which is part of security measures for the peaceful conduct of the election, will take effect from 12:00pm to 5:00pm on election day.

The command, however, exempted essential workers, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), accredited observers, and properly identified media personnel from the restriction.

The statement added that the measure followed resolutions reached at the Inter-agency consultative committee on election security strategic meeting.

Kiyawa said the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, had directed the full implementation of the security architecture developed by security agencies to ensure a peaceful, orderly, and credible electoral process.

He said adequate personnel from the police and other security agencies had been deployed to polling units, collation centres, INEC offices and other critical locations within the two local government areas.

The command warned that it would not tolerate electoral violence, vote buying, vote selling, ballot box snatching, voter intimidation, or the spread of fake news capable of disrupting the election.

It also cautioned political parties and their supporters against campaigning, canvassing, or displaying party materials within 300 metres of polling units, stressing that only eligible voters with valid identification would be allowed access to polling areas.

“The command declares zero tolerance for electoral malpractice. Anyone found engaging in any form of electoral offence will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the Electoral Act, 2022,” the statement added.

The police spokesman further assured residents of Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency of adequate security coverage before, during and after the election, urging voters to come out and exercise their civic responsibilities peacefully.
