The resident pastor at the Government House Chapel in Benin, Edo State, Apostle Sule Azekhumen, on Monday, said that no meaningful development can thrive in an atmosphere of fear and insecurity.

Azekhumen stated this while delivery his sermon at the 2026 mid-year Thanksgiving and Praise service, held on Monday at the Government House Chapel.

He commended Governor Monday Okpebholo’s unwavering determination and unrelenting fight against kidnapping, banditry, cultism and all forms of criminality in the state.

The resident pastor noted that the Okpebholo administration has demonstrated courage and commitment in strengthening security and protecting lives and property across the state.

“As a people of faith, we understand that while our leaders work diligently, ultimate success comes from God. Except the Lord keeps the city, the watchman waketh in vain.

“It was this conviction that inspired the Government House chapel to embark on 14 days of prayer and fasting from June 1 to June 14, culminating on Sunday, seeking God’s guidance, protection, wisdom, peace and prosperity for Edo.

“We believe that God who answers prayer will continue to strengthen our leaders and establish the work of their hands,” he said.

The pastor appealed to Christians and other religions believers throughout the state to continually pray for President Bola Tinubu, Governor Okpebholo and his deputy and other members of the state executive council.

Speaking on the significant of thanksgiving, Azekhumen added that the people of Edo State have every reason to thank God, for preserving their lives, sustaining their families, and protecting their communities.

He commended the governor for the employment of 5,000 teachers, which he described as a bold investment in the future of the children of the state and the strengthening of the educational system.

Governor Monday Okpebholo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment in improving security and protecting lives and property across the 18 local government areas of the state.

The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Emmanuel Okoebor, highlighted the various sectors his administration has invested in, adding that he is doing everything humanily possible to make live meaningful for Edo State people.

The governor, however explained that his administration would continue to give thanks to God, noting that there is reward in showing appreciation to God at every given time.
