Nollywood actor Josbert Duncan, popularly known as Mofe Duncan, has criticised media personality, Daddy Freeze over his remarks about the service of songs held in honour of late actor Alex Ekubo.
Key highlights:
- Mofe Duncan criticized Daddy Freeze over comments about Alex Ekubo’s tribute event.
- He said the gathering was a service of songs and celebration of the actor’s life.
- Duncan defended the inclusion of worship and tribute performances.
- He argued the event reflected Alex Ekubo’s love for worship.
- Duncan urged people to focus on honoring the late actor.
Daddy Freeze had earlier expressed displeasure over the event, claiming that gospel singer Mercy Chinwo turned the gathering into a concert.
He also questioned the involvement of gospel singer Nathaniel Bassey.
Reacting in a lengthy social media post, Mofe Duncan said the event was centred on celebrating Alex Ekubo’s life and not about personal opinions or controversies.
According to Duncan, the gathering was a service of songs and tribute night, not a funeral, adding that hymns and worship songs were part of the programme.
He said: “The night wasn’t about you or anyone else but Alexx. It was a night of tributes and a service of songs.”
The actor noted that hymns, including “Blessed Assurance”, were sung during the event and argued that the celebration reflected Alexx Ekubo’s love for worship.

Duncan further stated that people close to the late actor repeatedly spoke about his passion for worship, insisting that the event was a true representation of what Alexx would have wanted.
He also criticised Daddy Freeze for leaving the event and later speaking about it publicly, saying such actions took attention away from the purpose of the gathering.
Duncan added that the media personality’s choice of outfit also raised questions, as guests were reportedly expected to wear white for the celebration of Alex’s life.
He concluded by saying that Daddy Freeze’s comments were inappropriate and that the focus should remain on honouring the late actor.
