Manchester City F.C. have reportedly failed in a renewed attempt to sign Elliot Anderson after Nottingham Forest F.C. turned down a second bid for the midfielder.

The latest proposal is understood to be valued at around £120 million, including bonuses, with an upfront payment reportedly exceeding £100 million. The offer follows an earlier approach that was also rejected by Forest.

Should a transfer eventually be agreed at that valuation, Anderson would become the most expensive English player in football history, surpassing the fee paid by Arsenal F.C. for Declan Rice in 2023.

Despite the setback, City are said to remain keen on bringing the 23-year-old to the Etihad Stadium as part of their plans for the upcoming season. The midfielder has emerged as one of Pep Guardiola’s priority targets as the club looks to reinforce its options in the centre of the park.

Reports suggest Anderson is open to a move to Manchester City, while discussions over personal terms are not expected to be a major hurdle if both clubs can reach an agreement on a transfer fee.

Meanwhile, Manchester United F.C. are believed to have cooled their interest, with the club unwilling to become involved in an escalating bidding contest.

Anderson, who progressed through the academy ranks at Newcastle United F.C., has attracted admiration from City scouts for several years. Although he is currently focused on international duties with England national football team, negotiations between the clubs are expected to continue.

The midfielder recently featured in England’s victory over Costa Rica national football team.
