Nigeria’s Super Falcons are aiming for a stronger and more aggressive performance when they face Senegal’s Teranga Lionesses in their second international friendly encounter on Monday at the Remo Stars Sports Complex in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State.
Key Highlights:
The nine-time African champions edged Senegal 2-1 in the first meeting between both sides on Friday, but Head Coach Justine Madugu believes there is room for improvement as his team continues preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Speaking ahead of the match, Madugu said the Falcons would adopt a more intense approach against the Senegalese side as they fine-tune strategies for the continental tournament scheduled to begin next month.
According to the coach, the second friendly presents another opportunity for his players to build cohesion, improve match fitness and sharpen their tactical execution before heading to Morocco.
Nigeria secured victory in Friday’s encounter through goals from veteran striker Asisat Oshoala, who converted from the penalty spot, and midfielder Toni Payne. Senegal reduced the deficit with four minutes remaining, setting up a competitive finish to the match.

The latest victory extended Nigeria’s positive record against Senegal. The two teams previously met in the qualification series for the 2016 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where the Falcons advanced with a 3-1 aggregate victory after a 1-1 draw in the first leg and a 2-0 win in the return fixture.
Both countries are using the friendly matches as part of their preparations for the 2026 WAFCON tournament, which will take place in Morocco from July 25 to August 16.
Nigeria, seeking a record-extending 11th continental title, have been drawn in Group C alongside Egypt, Zambia and debutants Malawi.
Senegal will compete in Group A, where they will face hosts Morocco, Algeria and Kenya.
Beyond the continental championship, the tournament carries additional significance as it will serve as Africa’s qualification pathway for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
The four semi-finalists will qualify automatically for the World Cup, while the fifth-placed team will earn a place in an intercontinental playoff tournament for another opportunity to reach the global showpiece.
Monday’s encounter is expected to provide both teams with a valuable test as they continue preparations for what promises to be a highly competitive Women’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign.
