President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Dr Zainab Marwa, daughter of the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), retired Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa, as a member of the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), representing the North-East geopolitical zone.
Key Highlights:
- Bola Ahmed Tinubu nominated Zainab Marwa to the Niger Delta Development Commission board
- She is the daughter of Mohammed Buba Marwa.
- She replaces Abdulrazak Namdas.
- The Senate will screen her nomination.
- Confirmation would make her an NDDC board member.
The nomination was formally transmitted to the Senate for confirmation and was read during Thursday’s plenary session by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
In a letter addressed to the upper chamber, President Tinubu stated that the nomination was made in accordance with the provisions of the NDDC Establishment Act and is intended to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of former board member Abdulrazak Namdas.
Namdas resigned from the board on March 30, 2026, following his decision to contest the governorship election in Adamawa State.
The President expressed confidence in Dr Marwa’s ability to contribute effectively to the commission’s mandate, urging senators to give her nomination expeditious consideration to ensure continuity in the board’s operations.

Tinubu noted that a swift confirmation process would enable the commission to sustain its developmental agenda and continue delivering critical infrastructure, economic growth initiatives, and social intervention programmes across the Niger Delta region.
Following the presentation of the nomination, the Senate referred the matter to its Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission for screening and further legislative action before a final confirmation vote.
If confirmed, Dr Marwa will join the NDDC board at a crucial period as the commission intensifies efforts to address developmental challenges and improve the living conditions of communities in the oil-producing region.
The nomination is the latest in a series of appointments by the Tinubu administration aimed at strengthening key federal institutions and ensuring broad national representation in governance.
