The founder of Folio Media Group and publisher of Daily Times Nigeria, Mr. Fidelis Anosike, has pledged to support the completion of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council multipurpose congress hall project with the sum of N100 million.

Key Highlights:

  • Fidelis Anosike pledged ₦100 million to the NUJ hall project.
  • The donation was announced in Abuja.
  • It formed part of Daily Times Nigeria‘s 100th anniversary celebration.
  • Anosike praised the newspaper’s century-long legacy.
  • Grace Ike commended the donation and Daily Times’ impact.

Anosike made the pledge on Monday during a visit to the Nigeria Union of Journalists secretariat in Abuja as part of activities marking the centenary celebration of Daily Times Nigeria.

Speaking at the event, Anosike described the 100-year milestone of the newspaper as a defining moment not only for the organisation but also for the broader Nigerian media landscape.

According to him, the centenary celebration reflects a century of resilience, public service, and nation-building through credible journalism.

He noted that despite surviving political transitions, economic challenges, and technological disruptions over the decades, the newspaper has remained committed to the principles of truth, accountability, and public interest reporting.

“Daily Times has been part of Nigeria’s story for 100 years. The institution helped shape public discourse, supported national development and gave voice to millions of Nigerians. Preserving that legacy is a responsibility we take seriously,” Anosike said.

He added that when the current management assumed leadership of the organisation, it understood the enormous responsibility involved in reviving one of Nigeria’s oldest media brands.

According to him, the future of journalism depends largely on credibility, professionalism, and public trust.

Also speaking at the event, Chairperson of the NUJ FCT Council, Grace Ike, described Daily Times as one of the foundational pillars of modern journalism in Nigeria.

She said the newspaper played a critical role in shaping the country’s political, social, and economic conversations over the years, while also serving as a training ground and source of inspiration for generations of journalists.

Ike stressed that journalism remains vital to democracy because it gives citizens a voice and holds leaders accountable.

She also commended Anosike for the N100 million donation towards the completion of the NUJ congress hall project and urged journalists to continue upholding ethical standards and professionalism despite the pressures associated with the evolving digital media environment.

The NUJ chairperson further wished Daily Times greater success, renewed vision, and lasting impact as the organisation begins its second century of operation.

Daily Times Nigeria, one of Nigeria’s oldest newspapers, is celebrating 100 years of existence, a milestone widely regarded as significant in the country’s media and democratic history.
