Confirming the incident, the Adamawa State Police Command said the impact of the collision caused the commercial bus to overturn before bursting into flames, trapping all five occupants inside.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, preliminary investigations revealed that all five passengers aboard the bus were burnt beyond recognition.

The police disclosed that initial identification efforts showed that four of the victims were serving NYSC members posted to Adamawa State.

Two of the deceased corps members were identified as Suleuman Juliet and Usman Shuaibu, both from Kaduna State, while authorities continue efforts to establish the identities of the remaining victims.

The Command also confirmed the death of a military personnel attached to the military vehicle, bringing the total number of fatalities recorded in the accident to six.

Emergency responders, including police officers, were immediately mobilised to the scene to conduct rescue and recovery operations. The remains of the victims were subsequently evacuated to the Specialist Hospital in Yola.

Reacting to the tragedy, the Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, Kabir Umar Hassan, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the bereaved families, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the NYSC, and all those affected by the incident.

The police assured the public that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing and promised to provide further updates as more information becomes available.

The incident has once again raised concerns over road safety and the devastating consequences of traffic accidents on major highways across the country.
