The hosting rights were presented on Tuesday, by the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Ali Rabiu, during a dinner hosted by Gov. Zulum in honour of the visiting NSE leadership.

The conference, tagged: “Maiduguri 2026” and themed “Engineering Innovations for Enhanced Security and Sustainable National Development,” is expected to attract approximately 10,000 delegates from diverse engineering fields across Nigeria and beyond.

Earlier during a courtesy visit by the NSE delegation, Gov. Zulum assured the society that Maiduguri is secure and adequately prepared to host the prestigious gathering.

Addressing concerns over security, the governor highlighted the state’s successful hosting of several major national and international events in recent years without any incidents.

According to him, Maiduguri hosted key events in 2025, including the 6th National Council on Power, the 70th National Council on Education, the Kanem-Borno Cultural Summit, the 40th National Qur’anic Recitation Competition, and the 65th National Council on Health.

“Maiduguri is secure and ready to host the conference. We are also known for our hospitality,” Gov. Zulum said.

The governor also expressed appreciation to the NSE for conferring its honorary fellowship on renowned businessman, philanthropist and elder statesman, Muhammadu Indimi, describing the recognition as long overdue.

He commended Indimi’s contributions to education and infrastructure development across Nigeria, noting that the honour was well deserved.

Responding, NSE President, Rabiu praised Gov. Zulum’s commitment to security and development, stating that the society is encouraged by the prevailing peace and stability in Maiduguri and other parts of Borno State.

“We are particularly impressed by the relative peace and security being enjoyed in Maiduguri and other parts of the state,” Rabiu said.

He reaffirmed the society’s confidence in Borno’s capacity to successfully host the conference, revealing that the NSE Council would hold a meeting in Maiduguri in July, as part of preparations for the event.

According to him, the council plans to assess the state’s readiness and evaluate the security environment ahead of the conference.

Rabiu noted that previous NSE engagements held in Maiduguri had been conducted successfully without security incidents, strengthening the society’s confidence in hosting the 2026 conference in the state.
