Summary of Key Points

  • The Delta State Football Association (DFA) suspended Morak FC official Mr. Onoriode for one year for assaulting a match official during a Nationwide League One match against Suncel FC.
  • The suspension takes effect immediately and bars him from all football-related activities under the DFA.
  • The DFA condemned the attack, describing it as a serious breach of football rules and fair play.
  • The association stressed that violence against match officials undermines the integrity, safety, and development of football.
  • The suspended official must provide a written commitment to good conduct before he can be considered for reinstatement after serving the suspension.

The sanction, contained in an official communication issued by the state football governing body, takes immediate effect and bars the official from participating in all football-related activities under the jurisdiction of the DFA.

According to the association, the disciplinary measure was necessitated by the official’s misconduct during the league fixture, an action adjudged to be a serious breach of football regulations and the principles of fair play that govern the game.

In its ruling, the DFA condemned the attack on the match official, stressing that violence against referees and other match-day personnel poses a threat to the integrity, safety and development of football competitions.

The association noted that maintaining discipline and respect for match officials remains fundamental to the growth of the sport, adding that any act capable of bringing the game into disrepute would attract stiff sanctions.

The DFA reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on hooliganism, intimidation and all forms of violence at football venues, warning clubs, officials and supporters to uphold the highest standards of sportsmanship and professionalism.

The disciplinary decision has been communicated to the management of Morak FC, with the association reaffirming its commitment to protecting match officials and preserving the sanctity of football competitions across Delta State.
