Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has warned local government council chairmen against the misuse and diversion of agricultural tractors distributed by the state government to support farming activities across the state.

Key Highlights:

  • Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri warned council chairmen against misusing tractors meant for farmers in Adamawa State.
  • The tractors were distributed to 21 local government councils to support the 2026 farming season and mechanised agriculture.
  • Fintiri stressed that the equipment must be used strictly for farming, not personal benefit or non-agricultural purposes.
  • He warned that officials found diverting or misusing the tractors would face sanctions.
  • Stakeholders, including farmers and local government officials, praised the initiative and promised proper use to boost food production.

Governor Fintiri gave the warning on Tuesday during the formal handover of tractors to the 21 local government councils for the 2026 farming season at the Adamawa Agricultural Authority in Kofare, Yola North Local Government Area.

The governor said the tractors were procured strictly to enhance agricultural productivity, promote mechanised farming, and support farmers, stressing that the equipment must not be used for personal gain or diverted to non-agricultural purposes.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to accountability, transparency, and the proper utilisation of agricultural interventions aimed at improving food security and rural development in the state.

According to him, the distribution of the tractors forms part of a broader strategy to strengthen food production systems, expand farmlands under cultivation, and improve the livelihoods of farmers across Adamawa State.

Fintiri further warned that any official found guilty of misusing or diverting the tractors would face strict sanctions in line with government regulations.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Salihu Idris, described the initiative as a reflection of the governor’s commitment to agricultural transformation, youth empowerment, and rural development.

He noted that the intervention would reduce the burden on farmers and increase the area of cultivation across the state, assuring that the tractors would be properly monitored and effectively utilised.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ibrahim Yayaji Mijinyawa, commended the governor for the timely intervention, describing it as a major boost to farming activities and food production in the state.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Adamawa State chapter, Suleiman Gankuba, praised governor Fintiri for the distribution of the 42 tractors, describing the gesture as a demonstration of purposeful leadership aimed at improving livelihoods and enhancing grassroots welfare.

Gankuba assured the governor that the tractors would be properly managed and deployed to support farmers and improve agricultural productivity in all benefiting local government areas.

Speaking on behalf of farmers, the Chairman of the Farmers Association of Adamawa State, Ibrahim Usman Michika, expressed appreciation to the state government, saying the tractors would greatly support farmers during the current farming season.
