The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed the alleged murder of a 29-year-old woman, Blessing Moshood, whose body was discovered in a canal in the Jikwoyi area of Abuja.

The deceased, a sociology graduate of the Kogi State University, was reportedly killed last Thursday night before her body was dumped in the canal.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident on Monday, while responding to inquiries from journalists after the victim’s sister, Abigail Moshood, narrated the events leading to the tragedy.
According to Abigail, Blessing left their residence around 8 p.m. after receiving a phone call from someone.
She explained that about an hour later, the deceased contacted the family to say she would briefly return home to pick up her phone charger which she had forgotten.

However, concern grew after Blessing failed to return home and could not be reached the following day.
Abigail said the family later became alarmed after hearing reports about the discovery of a woman’s body inside a canal, adding that eyewitness descriptions of the victim’s hairstyle matched her sister’s appearance.
“We later heard people discussing the body of a woman found inside a canal, and someone described the hairstyle, which matched my sister’s,” she said.
She added that officers from the Jikwoyi Police Station later evacuated the corpse, which was reportedly found half-naked and wearing only a top, to a mortuary in Mararaba, Nasarawa State.
According to her, she subsequently visited the police station where officers showed her photographs that confirmed the deceased was indeed her sister.
Abigail also disclosed that a police officer informed the family that investigations into the killing had commenced.
The FCT Police Command has stated that investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.
