Kano announces 10-day Sallah holiday for primary, secondary schools

The Kano State Ministry of Education has announced a 10-day EId-el- Kabir holiday for all public and private primary and secondary schools across the state.

In a statement issued by the Director of Public Enlightenment of the ministry, Musbahu Aminu Yakasai, the ministry said boarding schools are to proceed on holiday from Saturday, May 23, 2026 and resume on Sunday, May 31, 2026.

  • The Kano State Ministry of Education announced a 10-day Eid al-Adha break for all public and private primary and secondary schools.
  • Boarding schools will close on May 23, 2026, and resume on May 31, 2026.
  • Day schools will begin the holiday on May 22, 2026, and resume classes on June 1, 2026.
  • Parents of boarding students were advised to pick up and return their children on the approved dates to avoid disruption of academic activities.
  • Education Commissioner Ali Haruna Abubakar Makoda wished students, teachers, and residents a peaceful Sallah celebration.

The statement further disclosed that day schools would begin the Sallah break from Friday, May 22, 2026 and resume academic activities on Monday, June 1, 2026.

The ministry advised parents and guardians of students in boarding schools to pick up their children on the approved closing date and ensure their prompt return on the official resumption date to avoid disruption of academic activities.

According to the statement, the holiday arrangement applies to all public and private primary and secondary schools operating within the state.

The Commissioner for Education, Ali Haruna Abubakar Makoda, congratulated students, teachers, parents and other stakeholders in the education sector on the forthcoming Id-el Kabir celebration.

He also prayed for a peaceful and hitch-free Sallah celebration across the state.
