The development has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians praising the collaboration between the Nigerian military and American forces in the ongoing fight against insurgency and terrorism in the North East.
Security experts say the killing of a high-ranking extremist commander could weaken terrorist networks operating around the Lake Chad region and parts of Northern Nigeria, where armed groups have carried out deadly attacks on civilians, soldiers, and local communities over the years.
Among those who reacted on social media was Evangelist Ibrahim Dikko, who commended the joint military action and called for stronger efforts to end persistent terrorist attacks in the country.
According to him, many innocent Nigerians, especially poor rural residents, have continued to suffer from daily attacks by armed insurgents, adding that international cooperation was necessary to restore peace and security.
He praised the United States for supporting Nigerian troops in the operation, while urging the federal government to intensify efforts against terrorist groups terrorising communities in the Northeast.
Another commentator, Ovie Agbuna, questioned the effectiveness of intelligence gathering within the country’s security structure.
He argued that security agencies should strengthen undercover operations and recruit local informants capable of providing timely intelligence before attacks occur.
Agbuna noted that many successful terrorist operations are often aided by collaborators within affected communities, stressing that civilian cooperation remains critical in combating insecurity.

Reacting on Facebook, Vicious Jackson said internal informants often play a major role in exposing criminal networks, suggesting that intelligence from insiders may have contributed to the successful operation.
Similarly, Ekpimienmene Smooth stated that security agencies alone cannot completely tackle insecurity without support from civilians.
He urged Nigerians to actively report suspicious movements and criminal activities to authorities in their communities.
The renewed public conversation comes amid growing concerns over repeated terrorist attacks, kidnappings, and assaults on military formations in parts of Northern Nigeria.
Despite several military offensives over the years, insurgent groups linked to ISIS and other extremist factions have continued to launch attacks in remote communities, forcing thousands of residents to flee their homes.
Security analysts believe stronger intelligence sharing, community engagement, regional cooperation, and improved military coordination will remain essential in defeating terrorist networks across the country.
The Nigerian military has yet to release full operational details surrounding the mission, but many citizens have described the reported elimination of the ISIS commander as a significant breakthrough in the fight against terrorism.
