The commendation was contained in a statement issued on Monday in Enugu by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Lt.-Col. Olabisi Ayeni.

The communiqué was jointly signed by the Chairman of the Council, Igwe Emmanuel Anichebe, and the Secretary, Igwe Raphael Okolo.
The Army spokesman noted that the position of the traditional rulers aligned with an earlier statement by the Division detailing how troops of Sector 1, Operation UDO KA, successfully repelled an attack by armed terrorists on May 6, 2026.
Ayeni said the traditional rulers expressed deep concern over the incident, condemned the actions of the attackers, and called for a thorough investigation into the attack.
The Council also urged residents of Ezeagu to continue supporting the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, and other security agencies in maintaining peace and security across the area.
According to the statement, the traditional rulers commended the Enugu State Government for its efforts in safeguarding lives and property while stressing that lasting peace could only be achieved through collaboration among traditional institutions, government authorities, and security agencies.
Ayeni described the communiqué as evidence of the importance of strong civil-military relations in combating criminal activities and consolidating peace in the South-East region.
He urged residents to expose individuals providing shelter or support to criminal elements, warning that such actions threaten collective security and development within communities.
“The communiqué is a clear message that the Nigerian Army is working closely with community stakeholders to restore peace and security in its area of operations,” Ayeni stated.
The Army further assured the public that no lives were lost during the incident and disclosed that injured personnel are receiving adequate medical care.
Ayeni added that Operation EASTERN SANITY would continue targeting terrorist infrastructure and criminal networks to deny them freedom of operation and sustain peace in the South-East.
He called on law-abiding citizens to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies, and resist attempts by criminal elements to spread misinformation capable of undermining public confidence in the military.
The 82 Division also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives, property, and Nigeria’s sovereignty while ensuring that Enugu State and the wider South-East region remain safe for residents and investors.
