Former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi and ex-Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso have reportedly reached a political understanding ahead of the presidential primary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Under the proposed arrangement, which is yet to be formally announced, Kwankwaso is expected to emerge as Obi’s running mate for the 2027 general elections.

Sources within the party disclosed that the agreement was finalised in Abuja following weeks of consultations led by senior ADC stakeholders seeking to build a formidable and broad-based ticket.

The emerging Obi-Kwankwaso partnership is anticipated to contend with other prominent aspirants within the party, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi.

The development has already sparked reactions across social media, where supporters have coined the term “OK Movement” — symbolising the Obi-Kwankwaso alliance and the fusion of the Obidient and Kwankwasiyya support bases.

Party insiders noted that the alliance is strategically designed to combine Obi’s strong following in the South-East and South-South with Kwankwaso’s influence in the North-West, thereby strengthening the party’s national outlook ahead of 2027.

Meanwhile, a senior figure in Atiku’s camp, described the alliance as expected, maintaining that the former vice president remains a formidable contender with nationwide political structures and experience.

Similarly, allies of Amaechi dismissed the development as a “marriage of convenience,” insisting that ongoing grassroots consultations would position their candidate strongly in the race.

In Kano, supporters of the Kwankwasiyya Movement have welcomed the reported deal, describing it as a strategic move capable of boosting the party’s chances in the next general election.

Observers say the alliance, if formalised, could reshape the dynamics of the ADC primary and the broader political landscape ahead of 2027.
