An Igbo socio-cultural organisation, the Igbo Union Ndi Igbo Worldwide, has commended Senate President Godswill Akpabio and his wife, Unoma Ekaette Akpabio, for their continued support for Igbo people and causes.
The group described the couple as strong allies of the Igbo nation, noting that their contributions have positively impacted communities across the South-East.
This was contained in a statement signed by the National Convener of the group, Prince Elias Odoemena, and made available to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday.
According to the statement, Mrs. Akpabio, an indigene of Enugu State, has remained a source of pride to Ndigbo, while her marriage to the Senate president was described as a blessing that has strengthened ties between the South-South and South-East regions.

The group further described Sen. Akpabio as more than a son-in-law to the Igbo people, citing his contributions to infrastructure development and his efforts in fostering unity between regions.
“He has become a bona fide Igbo man, not only by his marriage to our daughter but also through the numerous developmental strides and support he has extended to Igbo land,” the statement read.
The organisation highlighted several initiatives attributed to Akpabio, including infrastructure projects and employment opportunities for Igbo indigenes, as well as efforts to strengthen political and economic ties between the South-South and South-East.
It added that his leadership style, both as former governor of Akwa Ibom State and now as Senate president, has been marked by what it described as dedication, inclusiveness, and commitment to national unity.
The group also noted that the couple has continued to build bridges of friendship and cooperation across regions, earning them widespread respect and admiration among Igbo communities.
In recognition of these contributions, the organisation announced plans to honour Mrs. Akpabio in the near future, describing the gesture as a token of appreciation for her sustained support and connection to her roots.
