A fresh crisis has hit the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ebonyi State, as the Ward Executive Committee of Obiozara in Ohaozara Local Government Area announced the three-month suspension of Mr Silas Onu over alleged misconduct and anti-party activities.
The decision, conveyed in a letter dated April 22, 2026, was signed by the acting Ward Chairman, Nwachukwu Peter Obinna, and Acting Secretary, Akuma Martins. The ward leadership stated that the action was taken in line with the party’s constitution and relevant provisions of the Electoral Act.
According to the committee, Onu is accused of gross violations, including alleged interference in national party processes, conduct of what it described as illegal congresses, and actions capable of undermining party unity. The ward executives further alleged that his conduct was aimed at disenfranchising legitimate members who had obtained nomination forms for party positions.
They also accused him of impersonation, claiming he falsely presented himself as the Ebonyi State Chairman of the ADC at the party’s recent national convention, thereby misleading party leadership and delegates.
The letter cited additional allegations ranging from financial exploitation of members to the creation of parallel leadership structures within the state chapter. It further questioned the validity of his party membership, alleging that his membership documentation did not meet constitutional requirements.

The ward leadership maintained that his actions had deepened divisions within the party and disrupted internal cohesion at a critical time. As part of the sanctions, Onu has been barred from holding any party office, representing the party, attending meetings or conventions, and exercising membership rights throughout the suspension period.
A seven-member disciplinary committee has been constituted to investigate the allegations, with Onu given 14 days to appear and defend himself. The ward warned that failure to honour the invitation would be taken as a waiver of his right to fair hearing and could lead to further disciplinary measures.
Efforts to reach Onu for comment were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
The development adds to growing tensions within the ADC in Ebonyi State, raising concerns about internal stability ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
