Nigeria’s Senate has confirmed the appointment of Muttaqha Rabe Darma as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, following a formal request by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The confirmation was granted during Thursday’s plenary session presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. During the screening, Darma responded to questions from lawmakers, including inquiries on addressing Nigeria’s housing challenges if assigned the portfolio.
Senators expressed satisfaction with his performance and approved his nomination.
In the same session, the Senate also confirmed Obehi Aire Okafor as Co-Chairman of the Governing Council of the Unclaimed Funds Trust Fund. The approval followed the consideration of a report presented by the Senate Committee on Finance, chaired by Senator Musa Mohammed Sani.
Lawmakers further passed the National Assembly Service Pension Board (Establishment Act) Amendment Bill, 2026. The bill seeks to reform the contributory pension scheme and strengthen the operational framework of the board for improved efficiency.
