Tottenham Hotspur have begun the search for a lead performance psychologist for their men’s first team as the club battles poor form and mounting relegation concerns in the Premier League.
The move comes after head coach Roberto De Zerbi admitted the squad needs a significant “mentality change” following a difficult run of results.
Spurs have slipped into the relegation zone after going 15 league matches without a win.
In a job posting shared on LinkedIn, Tottenham outlined plans to recruit an “outstanding performance psychologist” to provide evidence-based psychological support to players.
The role will include one-on-one sessions, collaboration with coaching staff, and efforts to build a stronger mental culture across the team.
The club is also seeking an additional sports psychologist for its women’s side, underlining a broader push to improve mental resilience across all levels.

De Zerbi, appointed in late March as Tottenham’s third manager of the season, has so far managed just one point from his opening two matches.
The Italian has stressed that improving mindset and confidence is now central to his rebuilding efforts.
Tottenham currently sit 18th in the table, two points from safety, with only five matches remaining.
Their struggles have been particularly evident at home, where they have failed to secure a league win in 2026.
Defender Micky van de Ven recently described the situation as “mentally tough,” admitting the squad has been “suffering” amid the prolonged winless streak.
Tottenham’s last league victory came in December, highlighting the scale of the challenge facing the club as it fights to avoid relegation.
With survival on the line, the introduction of psychological support is seen as a strategic step to rebuild confidence and stabilize performances during the final stretch of the season.
