Former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, on Wednesday morning announced via Facebook his intention to contest the Delta Central Senatorial District election in 2027 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In his declaration dated April 22, 2026, Omo-Agege said the decision followed wide consultations with his family, political leaders, and stakeholders across the eight local government areas of Delta Central, as well as repeated calls from constituents urging him to return to the Senate.

He explained that his decision was driven by patriotic duty and the need to provide stronger representation for the Urhobo Nation in the National Assembly, while also giving full support to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

According to him, Delta Central deserves an experienced, purposeful, and courageous voice in the Senate capable of attracting federal projects and influencing national policy decisions.

Omo-Agege reflected on his previous tenure in the Senate from 2015 to 2023, where he served as deputy president of the 9th Senate, noting that key federal institutions and projects were attracted to Delta Central and Delta State during that period.

Among the projects he listed were a modern federal polytechnic, the National Defence Space School, an oil and gas industrial park in Urhoboland, and the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences in Kwale.

He also cited improvements in healthcare centres, school infrastructure, ICT hubs, landing bays for riverine communities, electricity projects, and empowerment initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods across the district.

The former senator said his return to the Senate would focus on stronger legislative leadership, improved infrastructure, job creation, youth and women empowerment, better healthcare and education, and stronger advocacy for Urhobo interests.

He also threw his weight behind President Tinubu’s economic reforms, describing subsidy removal, exchange rate unification, the presidential CNG initiative, and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund as necessary reforms for long-term national growth.

Calling for unity within the APC in Delta State ahead of the 2027 elections, Omo-Agege pledged to run a fair campaign and support all party candidates after the primaries.

He said his ambition was not about seeking a title, but about duty, service, and ensuring Delta Central remains relevant in shaping Nigeria’s future.
