Authorities in Iran have executed a man accused of setting a mosque ablaze during the January 2026 protests, according to reports from the judiciary’s official media outlet, Mizan News Agency.

The convict, identified as Amirali Mirjafari, was sentenced to death after being found guilty of arson and actions deemed a threat to national security.

Officials alleged he played a central role in the unrest that swept parts of the country earlier this year.

Iran’s Supreme Court reportedly upheld the verdict before the sentence was carried out, making Mirjafari one of several individuals executed in connection with the nationwide protests.

The January demonstrations, driven by political and economic grievances, triggered a widespread crackdown by authorities.

Numerous arrests have followed, with several protesters prosecuted and, in some cases, handed capital punishment over their alleged involvement.

Human rights groups have raised ongoing concerns about the fairness of the trials and the use of the death penalty, questioning whether due process standards were fully observed and criticizing the severity of the sentences.

The execution underscores the continued tensions within Iran, as the government maintains a firm stance against dissent and seeks to deter further unrest.
