The Bauchi State Government has suspended all commercial activities in 25 cattle markets across four local government areas following escalating insecurity in the region.
The affected markets are located in Alkaleri Local Government Area, Bauchi Local Government Area, Kirfi Local Government Area, and Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area, with the shutdown taking immediate effect.
This was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Mukhtar Mohammed Gidado.
According to the statement, 14 cattle markets were closed in Alkaleri, one in Bauchi, five in Kirfi, and five in Tafawa Balewa as part of the enforcement directive.

The state government said the decision was taken in response to rising security threats, including cattle rustling, kidnapping, killings, and extortion allegedly linked to activities around the markets.
Governor approval was granted following concerns over increasing economic losses and risks to the safety and livelihoods of residents in affected communities.
Security agencies have been directed to enforce the shutdown order, which will remain in place until further notice.
The government also urged traditional rulers and local authorities to sensitise residents and ensure full compliance with the directive as monitoring continues across the affected areas.
