Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have reportedly rescued a 27-year-old kidnapped woman after a gun battle with her suspected abductors, while also arresting an armed robbery suspect linked to a PoS attack in the state.

The rescue operation followed intelligence gathered on the abduction of the victim, who was taken from the Ibusa Community and held at a building site near the Obosi River, along the Ibusa/Ogwashiku Road on March 12, 2026.

Acting on the development, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Aina Adesola, directed the Command’s Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-Crime Squad to secure the victim’s release and track down those responsible.

Police sources disclosed that on March 19, 2026, at about 3:00 p.m., operatives of the squad stormed the kidnappers’ hideout following days of surveillance and intelligence tracking.

However, upon sighting the approaching team, the kidnappers reportedly opened fire, prompting a gun duel.

The police operatives, said to have overpowered the suspects with superior firepower, forced them to flee the scene, abandoning their captive.

The victim was subsequently rescued and rushed to a hospital for medical attention. Authorities say efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

In a separate development, police in the Owa-Oyibu Division arrested a suspected armed robber, identified as Sunday Blessing in connection with a robbery incident targeting a PoS operator.

According to the police, the suspect, alongside two accomplices currently at large, allegedly robbed the victim of N600,000 at gunpoint along Diffrey Road near Ebu Owa Market in the early hours of March 18, 2026.

The divisional police officer reportedly mobilised operatives following a distress call from residents, leading to the swift arrest of the suspect.

A locally fabricated Beretta pistol was recovered from him during the operation.

The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue, while police say efforts are underway to track down his accomplices.

The Delta State Police Command, through its spokesperson, Bright Edafe, reiterated its commitment to tackling violent crime and urged residents to continue providing timely information to aid security operations.
