The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested two teenagers, Umar Yahaya and Musa A-Hassan, for allegedly planning a gay birthday party during the upcoming Eid-el-Fitr celebrations in Kano.
Deputy Commandant General of the board, Mujahideen Aminudeen, confirmed the arrests in a statement released on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.
The teenagers, aged 19 and 18, reportedly used social media to invite individuals they referred to as pimps from various parts of the country to a birthday event set to occur after the Eid prayer.

Aminudeen mentioned that the suspects identified themselves as members of the Yan Daudu group and intended to hold a celebration featuring dancing and other activities deemed immoral by the board.
He noted that the teenagers have apologized and shown remorse for their actions.
Instead of pursuing immediate prosecution, the board has opted to keep them under supervision for guidance and religious education.
Additionally, the Hisbah official indicated that personnel would be deployed to monitor mosques and public spaces during the final days of Ramadan, in response to complaints about inappropriate behavior among some individuals attending late-night prayers.
