The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating online that a woman who alleged sexual assault was arrested, clarifying that the victim was never taken into custody.
The controversy began on Sunday after a TikTok user, Mirabel (@mirab351), shared an emotional video alleging she was sexually assaulted in her apartment in Ogun State.
In the video, which quickly gained traction across social media platforms including X (formerly Twitter), she claimed that an unknown man broke into her home while she was unconscious, physically attacked her, and raped her.
She further alleged that the suspect sent her threatening messages afterward and disclosed that she had attempted suicide due to the trauma. The video generated widespread reactions, with many expressing outrage and demanding justice.
Initial reports suggested the incident occurred in Lagos, prompting a response from the Lagos State Police and other relevant agencies. However, preliminary investigations later indicated that the alleged assault took place in Ogijo, Ogun State, thereby placing the matter under the jurisdiction of the Ogun State Police Command.
Amid the growing online debate, some social media users claimed that Mirabel had been arrested, alleging inconsistencies in her account and suggesting she may have fabricated the story.
Responding to the claims, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, stated on Thursday in a post on X that the victim voluntarily reported herself at the Ibafo Police Division on Wednesday, February 18, to lodge a formal complaint.

“She was immediately taken for a comprehensive medical examination, and her health is being closely monitored, as her well-being remains our priority. At no time was the victim arrested,” he said.
The police reiterated that the case is being handled professionally and urged members of the public to rely only on verified information from official sources.
Babaseyi added that the command remains committed to conducting a thorough investigation while ensuring the safety and well-being of the victim.
