Fresh chapter of anxiety has opened in Rivers State as the public await the list of commissioner nominees with baited breath.

Last week, Governor Siminalayi Fubara sacked all appointees, a move seen as the beginning of the implementation of the peace deal yet facilitated by President Bola Tinubu in the long drawn standoff between the former Governor, Nyesom Wike and the incumbent.

It was learnt that the governor has accordingly sent the list of the commissioner nominees to the state House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.

However the names submitted has remained a guarded secret fuelling anxiety among observers about who and who made the list.

Unconfirmed reports had hinted that the list was compiled by Wike, who is reportedly highly favoured in the latest peace deal brokered by the president.

There are indications and fears that loyalists of Governor Fubara, who previously served in the state executive council would be dropped for the loyalists of Wike.

The governor appears to have given up everything including sacrificing the interest of his loyalists who had gone through thick and thin to provide support for him while the standoff with Wike raged.

While receiving the award of Man of the Year conferred on him on Friday by the New Telegraph Newspaper, Governor Fubara had stated that he only stooped to conquer by assuming weakness in the face off with Wike to ensure the return of peace to the state.

Meanwhile, concerned groups and some stakeholders have started clamouring for the reappointment of some persons who served in the just dissolved cabinet.

The names of the immediate past Chief of Staff to the governor, Edison Ehie and that of the Commissioner for Gealth, Adaeze Oreh stand out as former appointees who according to the reckoning of the observers deserve reappointment following their track record of service.

Edison Ehie it would be recalled was the one who foiled the first impeachment move against Governor Fubara while he was the Leader of the legislature.

It was his bold and courageous stance against the governor’s impeachment that earned him the appointment as the chief of staff by the governor. And since his appointment, Ehie has proven to be a dependable ally to the governor. He has literally won the entire Orashi region of the state to the side of the governor.

At the recent civic reception organized for the governor by the Orashi people, Ehie mobilized a mammoth crowd that left the governor dumb founded. The people also presented gifts of 21 cows and other materials to further prove their love and support for the governor.

Adaeze Oreh on her part as commissioner for health endeared herself to the people by her humane nature and impeccable professionalism particularly with regards to the primary health arm of the health sector

Some journalists and media outfits in the state have come up with #reappointAdaeze Oreh campaign to call attention to the governor and the House of Assembly to consider merit and professionalism in the choice of appointees.
