The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, has emerged as one of Nigeria’s most compliant public institutions after scoring 82.65 percent in the 2025 Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard conducted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC.

The assessment, carried out between May 19 and June 20, 2025, placed NiMet in the “Substantial Compliance” category and ranked the agency 10th out of 344 Ministries, Departments and Agencies evaluated nationwide. The result was formally conveyed to the agency in a letter dated December 29, 2025, according to an official statement released on Thursday.

NiMet also posted a strong showing on the Anti Corruption and Transparency Unit Effectiveness Index, where it scored 82.50 percent. This performance earned the agency the 11th position among 356 MDAs assessed and a “Very Effective” rating for the operation of its ACTU.

The ICPC assessment reviewed key governance and accountability indicators, including management culture and structure, financial management systems, administrative processes and the functionality of anti corruption mechanisms. The outcome underscored the strength of NiMet’s internal controls, compliance framework and institutional governance.

In a letter signed by the ICPC Chairman, Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, the commission commended NiMet for putting in place structures and processes that promote efficiency, integrity and ethical conduct in public service. The agency’s management was encouraged to sustain the standards already attained in order to maintain consistent ratings and further improve service delivery.

NiMet, in its response, reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and professionalism in the discharge of its statutory mandate. The agency said it would continue to strengthen its internal systems in line with national integrity benchmarks and public sector reform goals.

The latest ranking positions NiMet as one of the leading federal agencies in ethics and compliance at a time when accountability and institutional trust remain central to Nigeria’s governance reforms.
