An emotional and unexpected moment unfolded on Thursday during the burial ceremony of late gospel singer Bunmi Akinnanu Adeoye, popularly known as Omije Ojumi, as her children reportedly learned about their biological father for the first time.
The incident occurred during the funeral rites when a man, who claimed to be the children’s biological father, placed a phone call that was put on loudspeaker before members of the family and mourners.
In a video that has since gone viral on social media, the man said he was calling to pay his last respects to the late singer before addressing the children directly. He introduced himself as their father and alleged that he had made several unsuccessful attempts over the years to reach them, claiming he was repeatedly blocked by their mother.
“I’m your daddy, and I’ve been searching for you. I once called your school when you were at Front Liner and spoke to you through the school line. I told you not to inform your mummy because she wouldn’t allow it,” he said.

He further alleged that the late singer later involved the police, leading to the arrest of teachers at the school after discovering the contact attempt.
Due to the emotional atmosphere at the event, the daughter did not take the call directly, as a family member reportedly placed the phone on speaker for her to listen.
The development created visible discomfort among some mourners, with reactions ranging from shock to sympathy, as the revelation occurred at such a solemn moment.
The incident has since generated widespread debate online, with many questioning the appropriateness of the timing, while others expressed concern for the emotional wellbeing of the children.
Omije Ojumi, who died at the age of 46 after a prolonged illness, was laid to rest amid tears, tributes and songs celebrating her life, faith, music ministry and devotion as a mother.
