Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has inaugurated three newly appointed members of the Governing Council of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, underscoring the council’s strategic role in strengthening the institution’s governance and long-term development.
Speaking on Wednesday during the inauguration ceremony in Asaba, the governor said the exercise was accorded priority despite his tight schedule because of its significance to the university and the state.
Gov. Oborevwori explained that the inauguration formally introduced the new council members to the university community, the people of Delta State, and the wider academic world, noting that their appointments came at a critical period in the university’s evolution.
He said the governing council remains central to policy formulation, institutional stability, and the overall advancement of the university as a leading centre of learning in Nigeria and beyond.
The governor said his administration has consistently appointed individuals of integrity, competence, and proven track records to governing councils of tertiary institutions across the state.
“As members of the governing council, you bear the expectations of students, staff, alumni, and the entire Delta State populace.

“Your decisions will shape academic policies, influence institutional direction, and determine the future of this university,” he stated.
Gov. Oborevwori expressed confidence that the experience and character of the newly inaugurated members would further strengthen the university’s ability to produce graduates who are academically competent, morally sound, and socially responsible.
He charged them to carry out their duties with transparency, diligence, and a strong sense of responsibility, stressing that their actions would have lasting implications for the institution.
Those inaugurated are Festus Ovie Agas, Frank Enekorogha, and Mr. Charles Ajuya (SAN).
Speaking on behalf of the appointees, Agas thanked the governor for the trust placed in them, describing their appointment as a call to service.
He assured the governor that the council members would work closely with the vice-chancellor and university management to contribute meaningfully to the administration and advancement of Delta State University, Abraka.
