Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, is set to perform the groundbreaking ceremony for the Otovwodo Junction Flyover in Ughelli on Monday, January 12, 2026, further advancing his administration’s ongoing drive to expand and modernise urban infrastructure across the state.

The ceremony, scheduled for 11.00 a.m., will mark the formal commencement of the project, according to a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon. Invited guests have been advised to take their seats by 10.30 a.m. ahead of the event.

Construction activities have already begun at the project site, with Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, the contractor handling the job, mobilised and working on the ground. The early commencement of work underscores the Oborevwori administration’s emphasis on prompt execution and delivery of major infrastructure projects.

The Otovwodo Junction Flyover is one of two new flyover projects recently approved by the Delta State Executive Council following the near completion of three earlier flyovers awarded by the current administration. Those projects, located at PTI Junction, DSC Roundabout, and Enerhen Junction, are also being handled by Julius Berger and are at advanced stages of completion.

The second newly approved flyover is at Uromi Junction in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area. Preliminary works have already commenced at that site, with the groundbreaking ceremony expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

In preparation for the Otovwodo flyover and to reduce traffic congestion during construction, Governor Oborevwori had earlier directed the construction of four adjoining roads at Ovie Palace Road, Okogbe Road, Oyakemeagbegha Street, and Edo Road. The intervention was aimed at easing traffic flow around the busy junction and minimising disruption to motorists, traders, and residents.

The flyover projects form part of the administration’s broader infrastructure renewal agenda focused on improving traffic management, enhancing road safety, and supporting economic growth in key urban centres across Delta State. The government has maintained that strategic road and transport infrastructure remains central to its development vision and commitment to improving the quality of life of residents.

As work progresses, the Otovwodo Junction Flyover is expected to significantly decongest Ughelli metropolis and improve connectivity within the area, reinforcing Delta State’s position as one of the leading hubs of infrastructure development in the Niger Delta region.
