Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has restated his administration’s commitment to sustained and improved funding for Rivers State University (RSU).
He made the pledge on Saturday during the combined 37th and 38th convocation ceremonies held at the university’s convocation arena in Port Harcourt.
Governor Fubara said his government will prioritise closing infrastructural gaps, strengthening security, and improving welfare for students and staff. He added that satellite campuses facing operational challenges will receive accelerated attention in 2026.
He assured that the state would continue meeting its financial obligations to the university, describing education as the most important investment for national development.
The Governor commended RSU’s growth and its focus on quality education, research, and leadership development. He urged the institution to intensify innovation and research efforts to help address socio-economic challenges in Rivers State and across Nigeria.
Governor Fubara congratulated the 13,242 graduates awarded degrees, diplomas, and certificates, and encouraged them to embrace entrepreneurship, integrity, and hard work as they enter the next stage of their lives.
RSU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Zeb-Obipi, expressed delight at presiding over his first convocation since assuming office in March 2025. He highlighted recent milestones, including accommodation for 40,000 students and full accreditation for all programmes.

He noted that 10,648 candidates received first degrees and 2,594 completed postgraduate programmes, with 157 graduating with First Class honours.
Pro-Chancellor Hon. Okey Wali, SAN, commended the Governor for strong funding support and unveiled a five-year Strategic Development Plan (2026–2030) aimed at transforming RSU into a globally competitive institution through research commercialization, administrative reforms, and strict anti-corruption measures.
The Chancellor, His Royal Highness Justice Dr. Sidi Bage Mohammad, praised the state government for making RSU one of Nigeria’s best-funded public universities and called on institutions nationwide to adopt emerging technologies and artificial intelligence to enhance learning and innovation.
