In what some analysts describe as another volte face, the speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly,Martins Amaewhule and 18 other lawmakers have defected to the All Progressive Congress, (APC).
Amaewhule announced the defection Friday morning at the assembly quarters which the lawmakers are temporarily using for their chambers pending the conclusion of work on the assembly complex under construction.
The lawmakers had Wednesday passed a vote of confidence in President Bola Tinubu and also endorsed him for a second term in office.

Recall that in 2023 during the heat of the political crisis in the state, Amaewhule had led the same group of lawmakers to defect to the APC.
However, when it became clear that they could lose their seats at the assembly, they recanted and claimed they never defected.
