Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a suspected arms dealer and a female courier allegedly involved in illegal trafficking of ammunition in the state.

The suspects, identified as Ahmed Ibrahim of Ekpan in Uvwie Local Government Area, and Jamila Abubakar, a female courier, were apprehended following a series of coordinated operations led by the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) under the command of ASP Julius Robinson.

A statement issued on Saturday, October 25, 2025, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the breakthrough followed intelligence provided by the Force Technical Intelligence Unit, Abuja.

The statement revealed that the first suspect, Jamila Abubakar, was arrested at Conoil Filling Station, along the Warri–Patani Road, Effurun, where officers discovered ₦550,000 hidden beneath her bag, suspected to be proceeds from illegal arms transactions.

“Her arrest provided a crucial lead that set off a well-coordinated follow-up operation,” the police said.

Acting on her confession, the operatives later stormed the Niger-Cat area of Warri, where they arrested Ahmed Ibrahim around 7:25 a.m. on October 22, 2025.

A search conducted at the scene led to the recovery of a bag containing: 115 rounds of 7.63mm AK-47 live ammunition; 220 rounds of SMG rifle ammunition, and 32 live cartridges.

Preliminary investigation, according to the police, revealed that Ibrahim is a major supplier of arms to criminal and bandit groups in the North and has long been on the command’s watchlist.

He is also allegedly linked to several high-profile kidnappings and robberies, including the abduction and murder of Ogheneovo Onemu, who was kidnapped in Ajaokuta Community, Ughelli North Local Goveenment Area on May 17, 2024, and later killed despite the ransom payment of ₦4 million.

The Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, hailed the operation as “another testament to the command’s determination to stem the flow of illegal arms and dismantle criminal syndicates across the state.”

He reiterated the command’s commitment to “identifying and neutralizing all networks involved in illicit weapons trafficking,” urging residents to remain vigilant and provide the police with credible information.

“The Delta State Police Command remains resolute in protecting the lives and property of all law-abiding citizens,” the statement quoted him as saying.

The police commissioner assured that investigations are ongoing and that all suspects connected to the crime would be prosecuted accordingly.
