Delta Police Arrest Suspects Over Robbery, Passenger Abduction
The arrests followed operations in Osubi, Alifekede Village and Okwagbe Waterside Community, according to a statement issued on Thursday by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.
In one operation, police arrested two suspected armed robbers allegedly linked to a criminal syndicate accused of targeting passengers, robbing them and abducting victims while forcing them to transfer money from their bank accounts.
The suspects, identified as Musa Haruna, 22, and Mubarack Abdulahi, 20, were arrested on October 11 along Osubi Road following intelligence provided by the Civilian Anti-Cult Group in Osubi.
According to the police, operatives of the Orerokpe Division worked with civilian anti-cult operatives and local vigilantes to intercept the suspects, who were travelling in a tricycle with registration number BDG 429 QN.
A search of the tricycle reportedly led to the recovery of a locally made cut-to-size double-barrelled shotgun, seven live cartridges and a jackknife.
The command said preliminary investigations suggested that the suspects were members of a criminal network that allegedly robbed and abducted passengers before compelling them to transfer money from their bank accounts.
Police said efforts were ongoing to identify and arrest other suspected members of the network.
Police Arrest Man Over Alleged Robbery, Stabbing in Alifekede
In a separate operation on October 12, operatives of the Agbor Division arrested Paul Francis, 25, over an alleged attempted armed robbery at Alifekede Village.
The police alleged that Francis attempted to rob a woman and stabbed her on the forehead, causing serious injuries, before he was apprehended.
Officers reportedly recovered a locally made cut-to-size firearm and a kitchen knife from the suspect.
The victim was taken to a medical facility for treatment and was responding to treatment as of the time of the police announcement.
Francis remains in police custody while investigations continue.

Police operatives attached to the Otu-Jeremi Division arrested Bruno Jonathan on October 12 following intelligence linked to the case.
A search of his residence allegedly led to the recovery of a locally made cut-to-size firearm and one live cartridge.
Further investigations led to the arrest of two additional suspects, identified as Merit Solomon and Edna Iboyi.
The police said all three suspects were in custody as investigators worked to determine their respective roles in the alleged theft.
