No fewer than 31 Persons with Disabilities in Akwa Ibom state have received the sum of N1.5m from Okongnko Charity Foundation to cushion the effects of the present economic hardship in Nigeria.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony at the premises of Redemption FM Radio station in Abak local government of the state yesterday, the Chairman of the Foundation Dr Christopher Okongnko said the Disable Persons were selected across the 31 local government areas in the state.
Okongnko; a Canadian-based businessman explained that the gesture cuts across genders adding that it was done out of passion, love and oneness for humanity.
“The gesture was born out of the passion of love and oneness for humanity. Disable Persons are part of the society. They are the worst hit in the present economic situation in Nigeria. We must rise to assist them.”
He urged government at all levels to give special attention to people with disabilities to avoid discrimination and abuse of their rights by putting up workable and effective legislation to protect them.
” The society should not discriminate against people with disabilities. They are part of the society and should be integrated especially in this hard time. ”
He appreciated the management of Redemption FM Radio station for organizing a rallying point where the charity Foundation showed up for the Disabled Persons in the society.
Prof Ahaziah Umanah on behalf of management of the station appreciated the foundation for bringing a platform to touch the Disable Persons.
“The platform has assisted in echoing the worries of citizens in all spheres of their daily engagement.
He described Redemption FM as a social, moral regeneration, and service institution established to be the voice for defenseless persons
He said that Redemption FM also seeks to redeem the lives of its citizens through its programs and policies in various sectors of government

He commended the efforts of the Okongko Foundation for putting smiles on the faces of his people and Presented the cash of N50,000 with additional cash for transportation to the 31 beneficiaries on behalf of the foundation.
“Redemption FM remains open for citizens’ voices to be heard as far as issues raised are constructive and devoid of abuse.”
One of the beneficiaries Mrs Unwana Joseph expressed gratitude to the foundation and Redemption FM for having in mind persons with Disabilities and prayed for Growth and Progress of the Okongko’s Foundation and
Redemption 101.5 FM.
” God will surely reward management of the foundation as they remember us in time like this. The Lord will also remember them. She said.
