The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old woman, Rabi’a Labaran, in connection with the gruesome killing of her co-wife, Zainab Lawal, during a domestic dispute that turned fatal in Daura Local Government Area.

The shocking incident occurred on Saturday night, May 24, 2025, in the Sabon Gari area of Daura town.

According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Sadiq, the tragedy unfolded behind Dadi Primary School, Sabon Gari, around 11:00 p.m. The victim’s husband, Nasir Yusuf, reported the incident after he returned home from the market and found his first wife, 30-year-old Zainab Lawal, lying lifeless in a pool of blood, having suffered multiple stab wounds.

The statement noted that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) promptly led a team of officers to the crime scene. The victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Daura, where she was pronounced dead by the attending physician.

Further investigation led to the arrest of Rabi’a Labaran, the deceased’s co-wife, who resides at the same address. During interrogation, Rabi’a reportedly confessed to the crime, stating that a heated misunderstanding between the two women escalated into a physical altercation, which ended with her fatally stabbing Zainab.

The police say the investigation is still ongoing, as authorities work to determine the full circumstances that led to the tragic incident. Rabi’a Labaran remains in custody and is expected to face charges pending the outcome of the investigation.

The statement reads:
“On May 24, 2025, at about 2300 hours (11:00 p.m.), a report was received at the Sabon Gari Division through one Nasir Yusuf, the husband, that he had returned home from the market and found his first wife, namely Zainab Lawal, female, 30 years old, lying in a pool of blood; she had been stabbed multiple times with a knife.

“Upon receipt of the report, the DPO promptly led a team of operatives to the scene and subsequently rushed the victim to the Federal Medical Centre, Daura, for medical attention, where she was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty.

“During the investigation, her co-wife, one Rabi’a Labaran, female, 23 years old, of the same address, was arrested in connection with the offence. She confessed to the commission of the offence, stating that a misunderstanding with the deceased led to a scuffle and the tragic incident. Investigation is ongoing.

“The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Bello Shehu, urges members of the public to shun all acts of domestic violence and refrain from taking the law into their own hands. He advises individuals to seek legal means of redress in cases of disputes, as vigilantism only perpetuates harm and undermines the rule of law.”
