Prominent lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN) has stirred fresh debate over the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral process, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a viral video circulating online, the legal practitioner questioned the competitiveness and fairness of future elections, urging Nigerians to take action and prove his concerns wrong.
According to him, “I want to challenge Nigerians to do something to prove me wrong that Bola Ahmed Tinubu will not be running against himself in 2027.”
Ozekhome’s remarks have reignited conversations about trust in Nigeria’s democratic system.
Many observers interpret his statement as a warning about a potentially unbalanced political landscape, especially if Bola Ahmed Tinubu seeks re-election.
The comments come amid lingering debates following the 2023 elections, with questions around transparency, voter confidence, and institutional independence still unresolved in the eyes of some citizens.

Others, however, argued that civic engagement and electoral reforms could still strengthen the process ahead of 2027.
Ozekhome’s statement adds to a growing chorus of voices calling for electoral reforms and greater accountability.
As political activities gradually build toward 2027, issues of transparency, voter participation, and institutional trust are expected to remain central to national discourse.
