The Taraba State governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator Abubakar Tutare, has urged voters to reject religious and ethnic politics in the 2027 elections, describing divisive politics as a major factor contributing to the state’s prolonged underdevelopment.

Tutare made the call while addressing supporters and other stakeholders, urging the electorate to “shine their eyes” and elect leaders with the capacity, integrity and commitment to unite the people and promote equitable development across the state.
According to him, political decisions driven by religious and ethnic affiliations have continued to undermine good governance and development in Taraba, while politicians allegedly exploit existing divisions for personal and financial gains.
He urged voters to move beyond ethnic and religious sentiments when choosing their leaders, stressing that competence and character should be the major considerations during elections.
“It is very important for us as people to reject the politics of religion and tribalism, which is the root cause of Taraba’s underdevelopment,” he said.

Tutare further alleged that some politicians hide behind religious and ethnic sentiments to divert public funds meant for development.
“It is sad to note that those elected into power in the state hide under religion and tribalism to steal funds meant for the development of our state. Therefore, electorates should reject such politicians who use religion and tribalism for their personal gains,” he said.
The ADC candidate maintained that Taraba possesses significant human and natural resources capable of transforming the lives of its citizens if properly managed by leaders who prioritise the public interest.
He therefore urged voters to carefully examine the track records, competence, integrity and development agendas of all candidates before casting their ballots.
Tutare said a united Taraba would be better positioned to address its developmental challenges, attract investment and ensure that public resources are used for the benefit of the wider population rather than a few individuals.
